When you are looking for a wellness retreat in Victoria, Lon Retreat offers all the luxury you could wish for. This recently-opened spa retreat is the ideal place to stop for a couple of nights while you are travelling along the Great Ocean Road, giving you the opportunity to escape from the hectic pace of modern life and reconnect with yourself in a tranquil and beautiful setting.
Here are just some of the reasons to pay a visit to this beautiful Lonsdale hotel and spa, which all the latest luxury escape reviews suggest is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most desirable spa retreats Melbourne and surrounding areas have to offer.
About Lon Retreat
Lon spa retreat is located in a sandstone farmhouse on a farm in Point Lonsdale Victoria, which has been owned and operated by the same family for over 100 years. It can easily be reached in about 1.5 hours from Melbourne by car, making it ideal for those looking for top spa resorts in Melbourne but also wanting to put some distance between themselves and the hustle and bustle of the city. Thanks to the idyllic setting of Point Lonsdale, on the south western side of Port Phillip Bay, the Lon retreat offers all the peace and tranquillity you need to truly relax and get back in touch with nature.
There are three mineral spa treatment rooms here, supplied with water from the natural mineral springs which run underneath the farm. You can also enjoy steam rooms, a sunroom, private gardens and beautiful views of the coastal scenery looking out over Port Phillip Bay, The Rip and Point Nepean, all stunning oceanic aspects.
Lon is rapidly gaining popularity as a day spa in Geelong, only a 20 minute drive from Point Lonsdale. You do not have to be a guest at the farm to use the spa facilities, but as you might expect from one of the most popular spa resorts in Victoria, it is important to book in advance if you want to visit the retreat and experience the spa treatments without booking in as a hotel guest.
As an adult-only retreat, Lon is ideal for anyone wanting a couples spa retreat in Victoria, providing the perfect setting to reconnect with your partner in a romantic and luxurious setting.
The seven suites at Lon Retreat
The farmhouse at Lon contains seven individually-designed luxury suites, each with its own distinctive character and ambience. Luxuriously decorated and fitted out, the accommodation offers a superior experience containing all the home comforts you need when you want to get away from it all. All guests have access to the mineral pool, and an artisan breakfast hamper is included in the price of your stay.
The suites range in price and amenities, so there is something to suit every traveller’s tastes and budget. The most luxurious of the suites are the Alto and Cumulus suites, which contain their own stone baths which have the mineral spring water pumped directly to them, enabling you to enjoy your own spa treatments, complete with top quality aromatherapy products, in the privacy of your suite. These suites also have access to their own private wine cellars.
However, the remaining five suites are also sumptuously fitted out and feature a wide variety of amenities. Each suite has beautiful views across the surrounding areas, and provides a haven of calm and relaxation as a perfect complement to the spa treatments at the retreat.
Lon Retreat really is one of the most exclusive and rewarding luxury escapes Victoria has to offer, and we can highly recommend it as a memorable and rejuvenating place to stay along your journey.
There are also plenty of things to do and attractions to visit nearby, giving you the ideal opportunity to explore the area while you are here.
Things to do near Lon Retreat
These are just some of the highlights of Point Lonsdale and the surrounding areas, all within easy reach of Lon Retreat.
1. Point Lonsdale Lighthouse
Point Lonsdale Lighthouse is located close to Point Lonsdale, at the eastern end of the Bellarine Peninsula. It is also known as the Point Lonsdale Signal Station, as there has been a signal station here since 1852. However, the current tower was constructed and first lit in 1902.
Point Lonsdale Lighthouse is thought to be the last manned lighthouse in Australia, as it is still staffed 24 hours a day, and guides the movements of commercial ships in and around Port Phillip Head.
2. Point Nepean National Park
This lovely coastal park is ideal for those wanting to walk or cycle along the coastline and visit the beautiful beach. Bike hire is available here, and you can also immerse yourself in the history of the area by visiting some of the forts which still stand within the park.
3. Lake Victoria
Within easy reach of Point Lonsdale, Lake Victoria falls within the Lonsdale Lakes Nature Reserve and forms part of the Swan Bay system of wetlands. It is of particular importance in bird conservation – the rare species of birds which can be found here include the orange-bellied parrot, the little egret and the hooded plover. There is also some attractive woodland to walk through on the southern shore of the lake.
4. Port Phillip Heads National Park
This marine protected area offers a perfect setting for those wanting to relax in peaceful outdoor surroundings or enjoy a spot of wildlife watching. Australian fur seals and Burrunan dolphins can be found here, as well as a wide variety of species of fish and birds.
However, for those looking for more of an active experience, Port Phillip Heads National Park also offers a range of water sports including snorkelling, sailing and canoeing, enabling you to enjoy outdoor life at a faster pace if you choose.
5. Geelong Waterfront
Geelong is the nearest city to Point Lonsdale, and its waterfront is known for the impressive Art Deco boardwalk and the charming 19th century carousel which is loved by kids and adults alike.
You can also have fun following the Bollard Trail, a series of over 100 bollards dotted along the waterfront, decorated as historical figures who contributed to the making of the area. This is an ideal way to explore Geelong’s history, and this popular attraction has become an intrinsic part of Geelong’s culture.
6. Geelong Botanic Gardens
Located within Eastern Park on the outskirts of Geelong’s central business district, the botanic gardens here were established in 1851, making them the fourth-oldest gardens of their kind in Australia. There are a variety of beautiful native and exotic plants here, as well as modern sculptures. The entrance to the gardens is particularly spectacular, and the setting is perfect for anyone wanting to enhance their peaceful and relaxing experience in this part of regional Victoria.
