Presidents Cup Returns To Melbourne in 2019
The President’s Cup is a biennial men’s golfing event where 12 of America’s top professional golf players face off against an international team with players selected from other countries, not including Europe. Outside of the four majors, the President’s Cup – created and organised by the PGA Tour – is one of the most highly anticipated golf events in the world.
And this year, it returns to the Royal Melbourne Golf Club for the third time in its illustrious history. In the 13th edition of this prestigious event, South African Ernie Els will be captaining the international team, while the US team will be led by Tiger Woods, who is also the youngest captain the event has ever seen.
Featuring a match play format where holes count rather than strokes played, the President’s Cup this year is sure to bring a surge of excitement to the gentlemen’s game when long-time PGA Tour rivals Els and Woods pit their teams against each other. Only time will tell if Woods’ age and his controversial decision to name himself as one of four wildcard selections will topple the US team from their throne and give the international team their long fought for second victory.
While there are some who won’t want to miss a moment of the four-day event, taking place from 9 December to 15 December, there are those who prefer to only watch the singles matches which happen on the last day. And seeing as you may have travelled several hours to spectate or participate in some other role at this prestigious event, you may as well take advantage and explore a little more of the sporting capital of Australia (hosting other major sport events such Australian Open).
Our Premium President’s Cup Experience Package
Before we start making suggestions on how to spend your free time in Melbourne, here is a breakdown of the amazing President’s Cup private tour packages we have put together with a world-class travel and hospitality partner.
6 nights’ accommodation at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne
Located on central Melbourne’s most prestigious thoroughfare, and within walking distance of many of the city’s major museums, galleries, and luxury boutiques, the 33 levels of the shimmering gold-hued Grand Hyatt Melbourne are where five-star elegance meets the understated opulence of a classic icon.
Breakfast for each day of your stay
Hosted by the Collins Kitchen, you can enjoy the Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s expansive buffet breakfast or choose from the range of à la carte options they offer before heading to Royal Melbourne every day.
Start your President’s Golf Cup experience with a cup of the coffee that Melbourne is famous for and a light meal served every morning of your stay. While the buffet breakfast served in the Club Lounge is not as expansive as the one hosted by the Collins Kitchen – the superior views more than make up for it!
Meet and greet services, whether this is at your home, an office, or the airport
We want your experience of the President’s Golf Cup to be as luxurious as possible, so we’ll send a private luxury vehicle to collect you from any location within Melbourne.
Daily private luxury transfers to the Royal Melbourne Golf Club
The Grand Hyatt Melbourne is roughly 30 minutes from the Royal Melbourne, so we’ll collect you with our private luxury vehicle and drive you to enjoy the matches each day.
General Admission to the President’s Cup
With your general admission ticket you’ll be able to walk alongside the ropes next to the US and International teams, take advantage of 17 grandstands around the course, enjoy The Village, and access a variety of food and beverage options.
3 hosted dinners at premier venues throughout the week
A trip to Melbourne is not complete without sampling the fare at one of the many world-famous restaurants to which it is home. The three restaurants we’ve selected as part of our President’s Golf Cup private tour package are:
Vue de Monde
Considered one of Melbourne’s best restaurants for over a decade, Vue De Monde is where Chef Shannon Bennet creates refreshing Contemporary French dishes that showcase seasonal local produce.
Pure South Melbourne
Melbourne’s premier waterfront restaurant, Pure South Dining serves up Modern Australian cuisine that highlights Tasmania and King Island’s local produce.
Grand Hyatt Melbourne
As your trip comes to an end, it’s likely you won’t want to travel too far from your temporary, though luxurious, home. So we’ll treat you to 5-star service and some of the finest cuisine Melbourne has to offer at Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s award-winning Collins Kitchen.

Other Events to Enjoy in December 2019
Queen Victoria Summer Night Market
The largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, the Queen Victoria Market is an iconic Melbourne landmark. And, from 27 November 2019 until 11 March 2020, they’ll be hosting Melbourne’s original and favourite night market every Wednesday evening.
With 130 stalls to explore, you’ll find street food vendors serving up everything from African barbecue to American-style loaded dessert waffles. The highlight of this season’s night market is the Palm Springs Bar, a pop-up bar where gigantic pink flamingos, desert plants, and delightfully fruity summertime cocktails will abound.
The Queen Vic Market isn’t all about food and drink though, you’ll also find stalls selling stunning local art, the latest fashion, stylish homewares, and general knick-knacks. Each week in December will also feature a number of live performances ranging from a community choir to a fingerpicking solo guitar player.
Our Taste the Queen Victoria Market private tour is usually a day time activity, but we’re happy to adjust it so you can enjoy this multicultural hub located in the heart of Melbourne after play has closed for the day.
Meredith Music Festival
Held in the Supernatural Amphitheatre, a natural bowl located on a private farm, the Meredith Music Festival began its 29-year journey as a casual get together for a few hundred friends.
Having featured performances by The Avalanches, John Butler Trio, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, Something For Kate, and The Cat Empire over the years, it’s no wonder the festival has become so popular over the years.
And with Irish pop sensation Róisín Murphy and German DJ Helena Hauff, known for her stripped-down techno and electronic tracks, headlining this year’s event, you can expect something for music fans of all kinds from all around Australia and beyond.
Getting tickets to this “1-off, 2-night, 3-day, 4-dimensional eucalyptic extravaganza, handmade for humans, in the Supernaturallest Amphitheatre on Earth” being held from 13-15 December can be tricky but it’s a wonderful experience for the younger crowds who may be visiting Melbourne during the President’s Cup.
Dinner and a Show
As the favourite foodie destination in Australia and with strong theatre roots, Melbourne loves to combine the two with its famous theatrical restaurants. While the wildly popular Dracula’s closed its doors in 2017, there are still several dinner theatres where you can enjoy a live performance while indulging in a five-star meal.
The Titanic Theatre based in Williamstown which “sails” every Friday and Saturday night during December is a Melbourne institution. Featuring a two-part musical performed while a three-course dinner is served, the show is an engaging and interactive night that ends with the Carpathian coming to save everyone and deliver them to a night of dancing in New York.
Featuring a humorously kitschy Halloween themed interactive dinner experience, the Witches Britches show is a popular night out for Melbournians. High-quality bistro-style food is served while talented actors and actresses entertain you with cheeky pop culture references and plenty of adult laughs, and is another dinner and show followed by a DJ-hosted disco.
American Express Openair Cinemas
Called Melbourne’s playground by the sea, St Kilda is a popular destination for some of the best summertime water activities – such as windsurfing and paddleboarding. But from 22 November until 20 December the South Beach Reserve will also be hosting a cinematic experience that is a little outside of the ordinary.
With a selection of recent box office hits such as Ad Astra and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, along with long-time favourites such as Love Actually and a number of local films, the American Express Openair Cinema offers an evening of relaxed entertainment underneath the stars.
The Italian masters from Ladro will be serving up their modern Italian dishes with a local twist and every evening’s curated menu is complemented by 4Pines beer, Pimms aperitifs and a selection of Giesen Wines. Make a day of it and start the fun with one of our many popular private tours, then head to St Kilda to enjoy the movie before we take you back to your luxury accommodation at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne.
